ABOUT FISH INDUSTRY:

Fish industry is the main base of sea economy in Norway. Fish processing gives employment to more than 30 000 people. The expot of fishes and fish products is about 30 mld Nok making the industry one of the biggest in Norway. Most of norwegian fishery comes from EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone). Waters controlled by Norway includes about 2 millions km together with Svalbard and Jan Mayen. Most of fishing zones are shared with other countries. Basic meaning has the cooperations and decisions how to organize this stocks. Norway has negotiated agreements with neighbours concerning discipline of this subject. The most important agreements are shared with Russia and EU. Moreover, countries located on norherneast Atlantic signed the norwegian agreements about macrels and herrings. NEAFC takes care of fishing out of economic zones. NAMMCO leads commisions of sea mammals because from 1982 International Whale Commision has no rights to establish this hunts. Superior norwegian target is to provide balance of whale minke huntings due to ability to reprodue of this species. This strategy is up to international requirements. Sea United Convention in 1982 signed arrangements about the fish population code of advirsory board responsible for fishing elaboated by United Countries Organization-feed and agriculture (FAO) IN 1995. Traditional economy takes only one species under the considraion. Howeverone species can have significiant influence to many others. For examle: in Barents Sea both cod and norwegian herring eat the same and whales and seals seriously demage number of different organisms by feeding themselves. Temperature and other factors can have aslo some influence for migration anddevelopmenof different species. Ecosystem is taken under the consideration while fishing. It means that economy pays atention to the consequences offishin due o the number of populaion and the environment in general. Economy that cares about ecological balance requires the knowledge about population and their structures, age. Norway makes statements about fishing and send it to the International Council of the Exploration of the Seas (ICES). It is international advisory board for North Atlantic authorities. Main organization examining fishery in Norway is the Sea Research Institue. Norwegian explorers cooperate with other countries, especially with Russsia. In most species the quota (TAC) is rated by negotiations regulated by international agreements. That's why national low regulations affects the inner quotas to which it is signed for. The divides of contignent concerns fishing areas, periods, different fishermen's groups and the equipment. In Norway fishing industry and the local governments cooperate together according to the statements. The final decisions makes the Minister. Norwegian legislation affects the sea situation and and after fishing activities. Coastguard is responsible for ships inspection and the fishery. Foreign ships that stay on norwegian seas are also under the inspection. From 01.07.00 ocean ships must have satellities navigation installed on board. It makes them able to to be monitored while at sea. Norway has signed obligations about using satellities systems. So everything is controlled if work properly. In case of underrate the fishing records shipowner is send to the court.
